Common Wealth of Nations

Critical minerals, policy, and the energy transition

Facilitating market development across the Commonwealth

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries, home to 2.5 billion people, including both advanced economies and developing nations. With 33 members classified as small states, many of which are island nations, the Commonwealth is committed to shared goals of development, democracy, and peace as outlined in the Commonwealth Charter. Originally rooted in the British Empire, the modern Commonwealth is inclusive and open to any country, with Gabon and Togo joining most recently in 2022. The organization focuses on fostering market development, economic growth, and international cooperation to address global challenges and ensure financial stability. The Commonwealth tackles various critical issues, including economic policy coordination, trade, climate change, global health, and security. It emphasizes contemporary global issues such as digital transformation, pandemic response, and environmental sustainability, advocating for renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting energy efficiency. Through regular meetings and ongoing discussions, the Commonwealth shapes global policies and fosters economic prosperity, working collaboratively with non-member countries and international organizations to address shared challenges.
