Jamie Underwood

Senior Strategy Analyst: Project Consulting

MSc, BEng (Hons), ACSM, Prof Grad IOM3

For nearly a decade Jamie has worked on numerous specialist bespoke strategic consulting assignments. He has played a key role in more than 70 projects for upstream and downstream platinum-group metals stakeholders, spanning the entire value chain from the deep-dives into PGM metal flows and price-setting studies for investors and key executives to mapping the global spent autocatalyst market for PGM recyclers and mine due diligence with Stephen Forrest.

Jamie has now been entrusted to ambitiously lead the development of the Future Powertrains series and apply his wealth of experience to forensically complete and market SFA (Oxford)'s first global deep-dive market research and competitor analytics on the future of cities and mobility solutions to 2050, and with the help of the SFA team to grow the company into new markets. This major study addresses the impact of strategic commodities with key themes covering powertrain developments and battery technologies, autonomous driving (including machine learning and deep learning), ride-hailing and car-sharing markets, smart cities and global megatrends of, for example, digitisation and connected consumers, all of which are likely to affect future car ownership.

For many years Jamie has used his creative talents to assist in much of SFA's marketing efforts including the production of the informative reports, The Platinum Standard and The Palladium Standard, and conference materials for the hugely successful Oxford and New York platinum events held annually.

Jamie has a unique background in commodities with a Master's Degree in Oil and Gas from Aberdeen University and a Mining Engineering degree from the University of Exeter (ACSM). Other relevant work at SFA includes commodity market research in cobalt, iridium, ruthenium, chrome, and other industrial metals and minerals. He also helped complete Wood Mackenzie's Gold Cost Study in 2010-2011.
